St. Louis native, Gregg Haynes was born to play the guitar. At the tender age of 8, he began to nurture his passion for music. Funds were not available for guitar lessons. Gregg's mother, the late Georgia Haynes laid hands on him with blessed oil and prayed that God would anoint him to play. Over the years, his skills would quickly develop as he played regularly at his dad’s church. Gregg’s exceptional gifting to play the guitar, coupled with his God-given anointing, opened many doors of opportunity for him.
The exuberant expressions of praise released as Haynes played, eventually led to him being dubbed as the man with the "Happy Guitar" so named by his cousin, Dr. Levi R. King, Sr.
Gregg was the accompanying guitarist for the award winning documentary film, "Say Amen Somebody" featuring Dr. Thomas A. Dorsey and many of the pioneers of gospel music. He has accompanied or recorded with many gospel greats such as Edwin Hawkins, Andrae` Crouch, Rance Allen, Kirk Franklin and the list goes on.
Haynes is also an ordained Elder of the gospel of Jesus Christ. Elder Haynes and his lovely wife Shirley are co-presidents of Anointed Music Ministries, Inc., A non-profit organization providing music and arts education in the community.
Haynes has received national attention and raved reviews with 7 CDs and 2 DVDs to his credit. His desire is to "play music that will touch your heart and lift your spirit."
